The escalating integration of digital technologies in education has necessitated a fundamental reassessment of traditional learning assessment paradigms. This study investigates the historical underpinnings of assessment theories and their adaptation to contemporary digital environments. Employing a mixed-methods approach, we conducted a series of qualitative interviews alongside quantitative surveys involving educators in diverse educational settings across Europe. Key findings indicate significant discrepancies between conventional assessment practices and emerging digital competencies, highlighting an urgent need for a paradigm shift in educational assessment. Our results reveal that educators widely acknowledge these discrepancies, advocating for innovative assessment frameworks that align with 21st-century learning needs. This paper contributes empirically supported insights into the transition towards more relevant and effective assessment methodologies in modern pedagogy.
