Addressing Cognitive Biases in Clinical Decision-Making: An Empirical Approach to Enhancing Patient Outcomes

Cognitive biases significantly impact clinical decision-making, leading to suboptimal patient outcomes. This study employs a mixed-methods design, utilizing both quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews with healthcare professionals across diverse settings. Our findings reveal common biases such as confirmation bias and anchoring, with quantitative data showing that 67% of clinicians reported experiencing these biases in their practice. Qualitative analyses further underscore the nuanced ways in which these biases manifest in real-world scenarios. This research not only illuminates the prevalence of cognitive biases but also proposes targeted interventions to mitigate their effects, thereby enhancing clinical decision-making and improving patient care. The insights garnered from this study provide a robust foundation for future research aimed at developing more effective cognitive training programs for healthcare professionals.
