Cultural Heritage and Urban Development: The Case of Kyoto

Abstract

This article examines the complex relationship between cultural heritage preservation and urban development in Kyoto, Japan. Through case studies and historical analysis, it addresses how Kyoto manages its urban growth while maintaining cultural integrity. The study evaluates the effectiveness of current preservation policies and suggests improvements to balance development needs with cultural conservation. The research offers insights for other historical cities facing similar urbanization challenges.
