Linguistic Landscapes: Visibility of Languages in Urban Spaces

This article examines the concept of linguistic landscapes, focusing on how languages are visually represented in urban environments. By surveying signage and public texts in cities such as New York, Tokyo, and Paris, we explore the sociolinguistic dynamics that influence language visibility and usage. Our analysis highlights the relationship between language policy, identity, and public space, providing insights into the power dynamics of language presence. This research contributes to urban sociolinguistics by illustrating how linguistic landscapes reflect cultural diversity and identity in metropolitan areas.
