Abstract

This paper explores the role of water transport in alleviating urban traffic congestion, using Venice as a case study. By analyzing passenger flow data and conducting interviews with transport officials, the research highlights the benefits and challenges of integrating waterborne transport solutions within urban mobility strategies. The study examines how water taxis and ferries serve as viable alternatives to road transport, contributing to reduced congestion and emissions. It also addresses issues like cost-effectiveness and environmental impact, offering insights into how other cities might adapt water transport to local needs. The findings suggest strategic roles for policy frameworks in promoting efficient water transport systems.
