Abstract

The integration of dental implants remains a challenge due to insufficient osseointegration rates. This study explores advanced additive manufacturing techniques to optimize 3D-printed biocompatible scaffolds, enhancing osseointegration. Utilizing a custom-built fiber extrusion system, we produced scaffolds with varied porosity. Bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) were seeded onto these scaffolds and analyzed for proliferation and differentiation using quantitative PCR and histological methods. Our findings reveal that scaffolds with 50% porosity significantly enhanced BM-MSC proliferation (p < 0.01) and osteogenic differentiation compared to conventional titanium implants. This research provides critical insights into biomaterials engineering for improving dental implant longevity and efficacy, addressing the pressing issue of implant failure in clinical settings.
